Wedding planning advice for 2014

When planning for a wedding it's a lot of work. So wouldn't it make sense to hire a professional entertainer that has tons of experience, and has been in the business for many years?

But I do want to warn you that you get what you pay for.  I know from experience that the most memorable part of any wedding is the entertainment. And it is also the least expensive part of any wedding when compared to the venue, the dress, the cake, the food, the decorations, etc.  So it seems like it would make more sense to invest a little more into your DJ and a little less into the cake, or have a cash bar instead of an open bar, etc.

What's your opinion?

So what's the most important part of the wedding?

Is it the Dress?
Is it the Flowers?
Is it the Decorations?
Is it the Entertainment?
Is it the Food?
Is it the Cake?
Is it the Venue?
Is it the Photographer?
or is it something else?

Well here is my perspective...and granted I am bias considering I am a Wedding Disc Jockey, a Caricature Artist, a Photographer, an Event Decorator, and more.  So that's why I'm asking for your opinions here.

The way I see it is that you can spend a fortune on a wedding and based on where that money is spent and how much versus what is the most memorable it seems like the things the are remembered the least cost the most, and the things that cost the least are remembered the most.

So here's my question...If the flowers, and the decorations aren't going to be the most memorable but the Disc Jockey is going to be one of the most memorable...wouldn't it make more sense to invest your money into a DJ that can truly make the wedding the Best Day of your life.  Why take a gamble on finding the cheapest DJ when you could spend a little more and get the Best DJ.  And this same analogy would apply for the Photographer...Considering the photos taken are going to be seen for the rest of your lives together wouldn't you want the Best Photographer and not just the cheapest you can find.

So what is it you want most for your wedding?

Or better yet what is it that is going to be the most memorable?

Is it pretty decorations, the cake, the dress, or is it how much fun everyone had?

I want to provide you with some helpful hints on how to save money at your wedding & get the entertainment you want!         Your guests won't remember what the flowers looked like or how the food tasted, and many won't remember how the tables were decorated.  But they will remember if they had fun at your party or not!  Make it unforgettable, not just for you, but for them as well.         Don't cut corners when it comes to your entertainment.  If you must, choose less expensive floral arrangements or decorations.  Instead of choosing fancy finger foods, consider having good food and plenty of it. Rather than having an open bar, have people pay for their drinks.  They're less apt to get inebriated, and your conscience will feel better.  What's all the decorations and food worth if everyone leaves due to poor entertainment?  Take care of what people will remember first... then you can sweat the details. Last Minute Hero - DJ Ziggy

I guess I should be happy...and I am, I feel very blessed to be able to entertain for a living.

I just find it odd that so many events I provide entertainment for book me at the very last minute.

Today for example: I booked a DJ gig for an all adult birthday party in Norcross, Georgia.  This one is going to be quite interesting as it's a White Trash Theme...I'm sure it's going to be a fun crowd, and it just goes to show the diversity of my entertainment skills.  But the point here is that for the past 16 years I have provided entertainment and 1000's of events that have all booked me within a week or less for their event dates.  And what gets me is many of them are repeat customers.

Now I guess you could call me the Last Minute Hero as I will certainly save the day when they hear I'm available.  But come on, is it really that difficult to plan ahead? I mean most events are annual, so why not book it far enough in advance that you can actually plan accordingly and make it over the top amazing, instead of throwing it together at the last minute and it turning out sloppy.

I guess it is just the way the culture is now a days, but I for one would like to see a change in society. Why be lazy and procrastinate? If you put your mind to doing something, then why not do it to the best of your ability!

At least that is the way I view my business, and that's why I always perform with the utmost level of professionalism.

So what is your opinion? Do you prefer to Procrastinate (or) Do you prefer to Plan?

I guess there is an opposite end of the spectrum, and I do know very well some of those types as well.
For example: A good friend and DJ in Virginia (As a matter of fact the man that introduced me to the DJ industry) is this exact opposite end of the spectrum I'm referring to.  His wedding was so perfectly planned you would think he has OCD. I mean if a chair was moved more than 2 feet during the reception I was ready for him to take out his ruler, protractor, and graph paper to redesign his seating chart. Then again his Wedding was nothing short of AMAZING, and exactly what should be expected from a professional DJ. And his wedding was by far the most organized I've ever had the pleasure of performing for.
